During March 2019, I had the amazing opportunity to give lettering, bookmaking, and printmaking workshops at Colegio Mercedes Abrego in Montería, Colombia. There were 22 students, ages 11 to 14, with special interests in calligraphy and lettering.

During two weeks, we practiced the principles of lettering and calligraphy, bookmaking, and rubber stamps. Each student made a concertina book stamped with their identity in lettering as a final project.

As part of an introductory talk, I emphasized the importance of creative careers and even answered some questions about my experience working in the creative sector.

Sharing with this group of quick learners also reminded me of the importance of allowing spaces for creative thinking in academia.
